First Time Bar Exam (2024)

New Mexico Board of Bar Examiners

In order to complete this application, this must be the first time you have ever taken the Uniform Bar Exam ("UBE"), regardless of where you sat for the exam. If you are any other type of applicant, please exit and apply with the correct type of application. Application fees are not refundable and are set by the Rules Governing Admission, which have been adopted by the New Mexico Supreme Court. There is no postponement or deferral of your bar exam application. If you are unable to take the exam, you may withdraw and reapply. You may email info@nmexam.org with any questions about the application itself or to update your contact information. If you ask to update your contact information, we will open that portion of your application for editing. After you begin your application, please use this portal for communication with the New Mexico Board of Bar Examiners. If you are applying during the months of February or July, please understand that we are preparing for, and administering the bar examination and our response time may be delayed. For technical issues, please contact Submittable directly using the link at the bottom of this page.

Please note: your application will be processed in three steps. After you have completed the first portion of the application, we will review the application and send you both steps two and three via this portal. You will be cleared to sit for the bar exam after we have verified your qualifications, received your transcript and law school certification form, and you have completed Step 2. You must be cleared for the bar exam thirty (30) days from the first day of the exam or you will not be approved to sit for the exam. Step 3 can be completed anytime prior to the expiration of your application. Applications expire after twelve (12) months from the date you file your application.
